Spring – Summer 09 Class Schedule

The Knit Nook has posted it’s Spring-Summer 2009 class schedule! You can view the full schedule by clicking the link above, but here’s a rundown of what I’ll be teaching.

Six Week Sweater: February Lady

Cost: $75 + materials

Description: Based on the Elizabeth Zimmerman February Baby Sweater, this top-down cardigan combines garter stitch and a simple lace pattern for a timeless sweater.

Dates: Friday, February 13, 20, 27, March 6, 13, and 20, 6-8 pm

Materials: 750- 1400 yards of worsted weight yarn, US 8 32 inch circular and DPN needles (or size needed to obtain gauge).

Intro to Intarsia: Tote Bag

Cost: 45 + materials

Description: Intarsia is a color work technique where blocks of colors are worked with separate balls of yarn, producing a single layer of fabric. Use Tonya’s original design, or chart out your own.

Dates: Sunday, February 8, 15 and 22, 6-8 pm

Materials: 200 yards of worsted weight yarn in solid color, 50 yards of worsted weight yarn in contrasting color, US 8 needles (or size needed to obtain gauge).

Intermediate Intarsia: Argyle Vest
Cost: $60 + materials

Description: Intarsia is a color work technique where blocks of colors are worked with separate balls of yarn, producing a single layer of fabric. Learn intarsia, duplicate stitch, reading charts, as well as the basics of garment construction by making this adorable argyle vest. The pattern includes adult sizes, but make a baby vest to finish by the end of the class.

Dates: Sunday, March 1, 8, 15, and 22, 6-8 pm

Materials: Please ask us about materials before class begins. Pattern included in class fee.


Entrelac

Cost: $45 + materials

Description: Entrelac is a knitting technique used to create a textured diamond pattern. Make a hat or a felted bag.

Dates: Friday, March 27, April 3, and 10, 6-8 pm

Materials: Bag: 400 yards of worsted weight yarn and US 10.5 24 inch circular needles (or size needed to obtain gauge); Hat: 200 yards of worsted weight yarn and US 5 16 inch circular needles (or size needed to obtain gauge).

Baby Shrug

Cost: $35 + materials

Description: If sweaters have intimidated you in the past, get your feet wet by knitting this baby shrug. Top down and without fronts, this is a fast knit that will fit any baby or toddler in your life.

Dates: Sunday, March 29 and April 5, 6-8 pm

Materials: 150-300 yards worsted weight yarn, 16 inch US 8 circular needle (or size needed to obtain gauge), 2 stitch markers, stitch holder or scrap yarn, tapestry needle.

Cables

Cost:
$35 + materials

Description: Untangle this essential knitting technique by making a hat (original design by Tonya Wagner) or a scarf (the ever popular Irish Hiking Scarf). Both projects make wonderful gifts!

Dates: Friday, April 17 and 24, 6-8 pm

Materials: Hat: 90 yards of bulky weight yarn, US 10.5 16 inch circular and double pointed needles (or size needed to obtain gauge), stitch marker; Scarf: 350 yards of worsted weight yarn, US 8 needles (or size needed to obtain gauge); Both: Cable needle, tapestry needle.

Steeked and Stranded

Cost: $75 + materials

Description: Master fair isle by making this baby sweater and then cut it open to make a cardigan. You have to take the class, if only because it is too scary to steek alone!

Dates: Sunday, April 19, 26, May 10, 17, 24, and 31, 6-8 pm—skipping May 3

Baby Surprise Jacket

Cost:
$45 + materials

Description: Knit in garter stitch, flat, and in one piece, this sweater is cleverly shaped with short rows: a true Elizabeth Zimmerman classic. Use a variegated yarn or multiple colors to emphasize the mitered fronts.

Dates: Friday, May 8, 15, and 22, 6-8 pm

Materials: 650 yards of DK or worsted weight yarn, US 7 needles or size needed to get gauge (pattern is sized based on gauge, so other yarns and needles will work. If you have a specific question about what size needles and yarn you need to make a specific size BSJ, you can email me at tonyawagner AT theshizknit DOT com), pattern included with class fee.

Six Week Sweater: St. James

Cost: $75 + materials

Description: This top-down, short sleeved sweater is an elegant knit that is easily modified. Learn about gauge, sizing, shaping, and adjusting patterns to maximize style and fit, as well as the basics of sweater construction. And did we mention that the class will be taught by the designer?

Dates: Friday, May 29, June 5, 12, 19, 26, and July 3, 6-8 pm

Materials: 660- 1100 yards of worsted weight yarn, US 7 32 inch circular needle, US 8 24 inch circular needle (or sizes needed to obtain gauge).

Knitted Teddy Bear

Cost: $45 + materials

Description: The problem with knitting for babies is that they don’t stay the same size. If you’re afraid that the baby will be grown before the sweater is finished, knit this adorable teddy bear instead. It’s also a great way to learn shaping and finishing techniques without having to make a garment.

Dates: Sunday, June 7, 14, and 21, 6-8 pm

Materials: 2 skeins Blue Sky Organic Cotton, US 6 needles.
